Learn Texas Two Step
At Hill Country Two Step, dancing is our passion. We love music, from Jazz to Rock. But we have a special place for roots music, particularly Country music. We're unafraid of using the term Country and even enjoy many of the newer Country hits. Partner dances that arrived into Texas from Germany, Czechslovakia and other places created a unique dancing state and the basis for the dances we love today.

An Original Texas Two-Step Private Lesson*
This is one of the original Texas Two Steps from the Czech side, using the Schotzie (Schatzi) basic. It was filmed during a private lesson. Over time, some of ways the moves are done have changed a bit and there is also a fourth generation step being used now and then in this video. This Two Step has been danced in Texas for close to 200 years. You can learn Texas Two Step in our group classes, for private lessons, weddings and corporate events.
*Texas Two Step is not a dance, but a set of dances with different rhythms and styles derived from Czech and German polkas, Shotzies (Schatzis) and brute dances. This is why you see the variety of steps and rhythms on the two-step dance floor that exists today.
The music in this video, “South of the Border (Down Mexico Way)”, is by Bobby Flores. I remember seeing Bobby in West Texas when Shawn Sahm went off the rails on stage, in a good way, as Bobby played his fiddle trying to figure out what was going on. He looked over at me and mouthed, “WTF” and laughed his head off. We’re sorry to learn Bobby Flores has lost his battle with Stage IV Esophageal Cancer on June 23, 2022.
“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.”
